History, according to Roger Passeron:
"From 1927 to 1941 André Masson always interested in sculpture, devoted to it a part of his enormous activity as a painter, draughtsman, theater decorator, engraver. Numerous studies, numerous projects were born but he did not have the time - he traveled a lot - to find the opportunity or simply the way to the foundries because he was very often out of Paris, even out of France; so he stored up projects for the future as shown by a project of animal coupling on the back of which André Masson wrote in 1928: "drawing for a sculpture 1927". It was in 1986 that he decided to make a bronze print."
